Sustainability

Sustainability at House of Flowers

UK Products in-store

House of Flowers is a proud supporter of UK produced products and as such we tend to stock the majority of our products from UK suppliers. In fact, most of our items are located within the neighbouring counties.

Packaging

Our packing materials are all biodegradable; cellophane, cello tape, bags, string, tissue paper and kraft paper.

Recycling

All of our carboard is either recycled or reused as part of our postal orders. All plastics are returned to our suppliers for re-use

Composting
All of our green waste that is generated in house (flowers and plants) are used by local allotmenteers in their compost heaps. By doing so, we reduce our landfill waste and carbon footprint.

Floral Foam Alternatives

TerraBrick;

We offer a sustainable alternative to the traditional florist foam which is OASIS® TerraBrick™ Floral Media. This product is made with plant-based, renewable, natural coir, and a compostable binder. Making it fully compostable, unlike similar alternatives such as Oasis Bio floral foam which Degrades by 91% in 3 years in an anaerobic environment.

Agra-wool;

Of our 100% Natural Floral Foam™, only basalt meal remains over time: an all-natural product. Basalt meal is specifically designed to change and improve clay soil, for example. It contains silicon, trace elements and minerals. This not only ensures that heavy clay soil is easier to work, but it is also good for the plants. It strengthens the cell wall, stimulates growth and gives bulbous plants the chance to root deeper.

Flower Grower
Seasons permitting, House of Flowers uses locally grown English flowers, supplied locally by our select growers. This enables us to create seasonal floral opulence as well as reducing our carbon footprint.

When stock is unavailable due to the seasons, we source flowers from our sustainable growers in Holland. The use of energy, pesticides and all polluting materials is highly controlled in Holland. Our growers are all registered with the government agency that supervises and rates their sustainability and activities which affect the environment. We only work with growers that are classified A or A+ and are conscious of constantly trying to improve this.

Furthermore, due to our unique way of sourcing flowers, the growers select and pick our blooms to order and send them immediately to us so that no energy is wasted storing and refrigerating these flowers before delivery.
